Introduction

EWLA2016 is a continuation of the successful conference series that started in 1995 in the UK. These biennial conferences have become recognized and valuable platforms to exchange experience and share progress in the development and use of laser-based microanalytical techniques such as LIBS, LA-ICP-MS, LA-MC-ICP-MS, LA-ICP-OES and LA-MS.

Over the course of three days we want to reinvigorate the informal workshop character of this meeting by having a mixture of overview presentations, latest research findings and above all informal, structured discussions of topics of interest to the whole LA community. This approach should appeal to practitioners and novice users alike, and we especially ask students to attend.

The 2016 conference will be organized in Slovenia, on the sunny side of the Alps. The venue of the meeting is the elegant Grand Hotel Union in the beautiful capital Ljubljana. We will endeavor to provide a warm atmosphere, fulfill your scientific expectations and present you with the possibility of tasting the spirit of this region.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Ljubljana on July 12, 2016.

On behalf of the organizing team from the National Institute of Chemistry,
Johannes T. van Elteren, Vid S. Šelih and Martin Šala

Topics

EWLA2016 will comprise poster presentations, short talks and selected invited lectures. Posters will have sufficient time dedicated to them and they will be displayed in the same area where refreshments and the manufacturers exhibition will take place, thus ensuring maximum attention of participants.

We welcome contributions from any of the following topics, although this list should only serve as a guide:

Fundamentals:
  • Laser-matter interaction
  • Particle formation and transport phenomena
  • Mapping strategies
  • Standardization
  • Isotope ratio analysis (LA-MC-ICPMS)
  • Data reduction developments
Applications:
  • Earth Sciences & Geology
  • Biology & (Bio)Imaging
  • Archaeology & Cultural Heritage
  • Material Sciences
  • (Bio)Medical Sciences
Instrumentation:
  • New Developments

In keeping with the National Institute of Chemistry's focus on laser ablation – ICP-MS imaging, we specifically call practitioners in this field to attend and add a new dimension to the meeting.
